We envision a just, humane and healthy community in which all people are accorded respect, dignity and the opportunity to enhance their mental health and develop to their full potential, free from stigma and prejudice.
At its 48th Annual Dinner/Award Meeting, Ralph Liberatore was presented with the Fred Funari MHA Award of Distinction for his commitment to community service and devotion to mental health issues. He serves on the board of directors of Adelphoi Village, Adelphoi USA, the Economic Growth of Westmoreland County, Mental Health America of Westmoreland County, and Mount Lebanon Academy.
The keynote speaker was Nathan Belyeu, Community Programs Manager at The Trevor Project, who spoke about his organization’s efforts to save young lives by providing a hotline and resources for LGBTQI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, intersex) youth. The Trevor Project is the nation’s oldest organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services.
Miss Pennsylvania 2011, Julianne Sheldon, was a special guest at the dinner. The 21-year old Plum Borough resident has adopted “Mental Health Awareness as her personal platform issue. Julianne is a junior at Point Park University majoring in journalism and mass communications.
